Morphology | Game of the Year!

Tonight we played one of our favorite new games called Morphology which challenged three married couples to new creative limits around the dining room table struggling to describe words with objects. To first introduce the game to our friends, we described it as a word guessing game like Pictionary, except instead of drawing pictures you have to use provided objects (a string, cubes, rocks,  mini pop sickle sticks, rubber circles, and mini wooden figures) arranged in a creative manner to act as clues for guessing within a brief window of time. There was a main playing board with Lilly pads lined up from a start to a finish with each team having a mini frog as a team’s player piece.

Each playing card has a easy and hard side, and we started out completing the easy side of the cards before trying the hard side. It was a challenge, but somehow it was possible and doable for the most part, it was as soon as we tried the hard sides of the cards and rolling the dice to see how we were going to be limited (eyes closed, use the weaker hand only, only 5 pieces, etc) where it really became interesting.Using just a piece of string I was able to get “Lightning” in seconds while the next time the word I tried to describe was “igloo” with my eyes closed – needless to say it was very difficult as I attempted to describe a house and then use the cubes to stack (stacking was impossible with my eyes closed) and we did not figure it out in time. The next one I tried was also very difficult and one that I just could not get – “master key”.  I tried to depict a graduate for the word “Masters” and then tried to depict a key only using the string without any other objects to use. One of the other couples did amazingly well and eventually were declared the winners!
